Julie Delpy was born 21 December 1969 in Paris, France to Albert Delpy, a theater director, and Marie Pillet, an actress in feature films and the avant-garde theater. At an early age, Julie was exposed to the arts. For her performance, Delpy received a César Award Nomination for Most Promising Actress. Delpy became an international celebrity after starring in the 1990 film Europa Europa. Following the success Europa Europa, Delpy appeared in several Hollywood and European films, including The Voyager (1991), The Three Musketeers (1993), and Killing Zoe (1993). Delpy also appeared briefly in the other two films in the same role. Delpy may be best-known internationally for her co-starring role with Ethan Hawke in director Richard Linklater’s 1995 film Before Sunrise, for which she has stated she wrote a lot of her own dialogue uncredited.
